Innovation inspired by Biology

Technology at Hemarina revolves around the hemoglobin found in the marine worm Arenicola marina. This hemoglobin is very similar in structure to that found in humans, but differs by:

  • Its extra-cellular nature. It is not contained within red-blood cells and is thus compatiblewith all blood groups.
  • Its capacity to bind 40 times more oxygen than human hemoglobin
  • Its particularly small size: 250 times smallerthan human red-blood cells.
