Hemarina is a biotechnology company developing a new generation of oxygen-carrier.
The use of Arenicola marina hemoglobin as oxygen-carrying RBC substitute was discovered by Pr. François Lallier, Dr. Franck Zal and Pr. André Toulmond.

During the last 70 years, attempts have been made to develop an oxygen-carrier which would help cope with the huge deficit of blood worldwide.
Patients undergoing surgery, transplantation, accident victims, soldiers hurt in theatres of operations, victims of terrorist attacks, victims of natural disasters, etc… all await an efficient alternative to blood transfusion.
Hemarina develops an hemoglobin oxygen-carrier that has shown promising results in pre-clinical trials for further use in Human.
This hemoglobin (HbAm) is extracted and purified from a marine organism and possesses all the characteristics required for an efficient oxygen-carrier red blood cell substitute.

The Chief Technical Officer of Hemarina has received a special mention at the "Prix Bretagne Jeune Chercheur 2007", 5th december 2007, at the Tambour Auditorium of Rennes
Morgane Rousselot has been rewarded in the "Terre et Mer : exploitation et préservation" ("Earth and Sea : exploitation and preservation") category, for her work on the therapy for ischemias and anemias.

Hemarina has received the « Grand Prix du Sénat » in Life Science 4th July 2007
Tremplin Sénat is the largest French investor meeting which takes place in July at the French Senate for the past 9 years. Hemarina has been selected for the “Grand Prix du Sénat” award in life science amongst more than 250 projects by a panel of biotechnology specialists for its huge potential. This prize was attributed to HEMARINA by Jean-Pierre Loza from INSERM transfert.
